eSilicon Collaborates with Aarohi Communications and Synopsys to Deliver First-Pass Silicon to Customers
Leading Intelligent SAN Component Supplier Leverages eSilicon's
Intelligent Design and Manufacturing Capabilities on Successful Tape
Out of Complex System-on-Chip (SoC)
SUNNYVALE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Nov. 15, 2004—
eSilicon Corporation, a provider of Intelligent Design and
Manufacturing for custom chips, today announced that it has
successfully collaborated with Aarohi Communications and Synopsys in
the tape out of a complex chip design with subsequent first-pass
functional silicon.
The successful three-way effort represents the most comprehensive
effort by eSilicon(TM) to date and illustrates the momentum of the
company and its Intelligent Design and Manufacturing business model.
By combining eSilicon's Intelligent Design and Manufacturing model
and Synopsys' Galaxy(TM) Design Platform for electronic design
automation (EDA), the companies were able to produce a highly complex
SoC containing over 100 million transistors, with over 9 million logic
gates, 12 Mbits of memory and multiple I/O voltage levels. The Aarohi
FabricStream Intelligent Storage Processor chip is targeted at
embedded designs for adding new intelligent SAN services such as
routing, volume management, data migration and replication to fabric
switches, directors, routers, storage arrays and blade servers.
"This was a very challenging design to complete," stated Jim
Kupec, chief operating officer at eSilicon. "We worked very closely
with Aarohi and Synopsys which was key to our successful result. Our
integrated, collaborative approach is the margin of victory for our
customers."
During the design process, eSilicon, Aarohi and Synopsys were able
to apply detailed design criteria and extensive signal integrity
analysis to achieve timing closure and streamline the design of the
chip. eSilicon's comprehensive design flow -- based upon Synopsys'
Galaxy Design solutions -- effectively addressed the challenges of the
massive hierarchical design. In addition, eSilicon's innovative
on-chip decoupling capacitor helped to reduce noise.
"The success of this design demonstrates the power of
integration," said Kaushik Patel, vice president of hardware
engineering for Aarohi. "We are delighted to have a trusted partner
like eSilicon that can collaborate with companies like Synopsys to
develop complex, custom designs with optimal price-performance and
time-to-market. Their efforts have allowed us to successfully deliver
both our FabricStream Intelligent Storage Processor chip and our
FabricStream Intelligent Storage Controller board to OEMs and
developers who are deploying end-to-end intelligent services in the
SAN."
"Working with eSilicon and Aarohi to help them field this advanced
chip has been very gratifying," said Bijan Kiani, vice president of
marketing for the Implementation Group at Synopsys. "Synopsys' Galaxy
Design Platform -- which offers a complete solution for design
implementation and sign-off -- was used to full advantage, culminating
in a first-pass silicon success."
eSilicon's Intelligent Design and Manufacturing approach for
custom chips results in optimized total cost of ownership, short
time-to-market and helps ensure first-time-right silicon, delivered
through a robust infrastructure. Unlike traditional IDMs and fabless
ASIC providers, eSilicon delivers collaborative system development and
integrated manufacturing services with proven, certified
methodologies.
